HalTek – MY POV

In Lebanon, we rarely see people with disabilities engaging in public life because public life doesn’t cater for their needs. Ramp access is rare, sidewalks are dangerous, and most of all, people aren’t educated to know how to respectfully and effectively engage with people with disabilities. It’s a common complaint in the disabled community that they are largely ignored or infantilized when out in public and we wanted to create an awareness campaign that went beyond the usual animated content that other NGOs tend to produce. Our aim was to empower the disabled community, highlighting their strengths, and showing their capabilities while also shedding light on some common misconceptions.

Meem was commissioned to create an impactful social media campaign, consisting of different videos that would help raise awareness on different types of disabilities and powerfully promote the cause.
We created two series of videos, creating a fun and tongue-in-cheek approach to the subject. The first series tackles misconceptions, and the second focuses on common situations and how people with disabilities deal with them. Both series are conversational and fun, with an underlying seriousness to them, where our subjects are given the spotlight to share their insight and advice to the general public.
